Bathroom Renovations: Changes for People with Limited Mobility

Follow These Tips To Keep Your Drains Free Of Clogs

If you've ever dealt with a clogged sink or backed up toilet, you know how each of these events can throw a monkey wrench in the plans that you had for that day.  You may have had to spend a substantial amount of time trying to get the clog out yourself, or been forced to call in a plumbing professional because the clog was relentless.  Even though it seems like clogs come out of nowhere, there are preventative techniques you can use to minimize the chances that you'll have to deal with these frustrating blockages.  Use this information to learn tips that can help keep your drains free of clogs.

Drain Strainers Can Work Wonders

One simple technique that you can use is to apply strainers onto all of the drains in your house.  The strainers are usually quite affordable, and can do an amazing job of keeping your drains clog-free.

Strainers work by trapping the debris that would ordinarily go down your drains.  This includes things like hair, cotton balls, even soap chips, all of which can accumulate over time and result in a clog.  The holes that cover the strainers are large enough to let water flow through, but small enough to act as a barrier for many other items.

Keep in mind that you'll want to periodically empty the content of the strainers into a trash can. This keeps them clear so that they can keep performing correctly.

Use A Baking Soda Solution

Baking soda has a number of different uses around the house.  It can be used in a powerful solution that keeps your drains running freely.

The solution combines one cup of baking soda and one cup of white vinegar.  Approximately once per month, pour the banking soda down each drain, followed by the cup of vinegar, after the liquid has been slightly warmed in the microwave or on the stove.  Let this mixture stand for five minutes, then turn on the warm water and let it flow through the sink.  This mixture not only helps to get rid of any clogs that may be forming, it also removes any unpleasant smells that may have been wafting up from your drains.

Keeping your drains free of clogs helps you avoid the delays that can occur when you can't use a sink in your home.  Start using these tips right away so you can enjoy clear drains for as long as possible.
