5 Simple Steps To Fit A Door Frame

You can fit a door in your home in a few easy steps. You have to ensure that you do this correctly. If you do not correctly fit the door and the frame, you could end up with gaps or uneven spaces around your door. Additionally, your door won't be able to close if you do not correctly fit it in the frame. Here are five easy steps to help you fit a door and its frame:

Step 1: Measure the Door Frame Opening

After you have removed the old door make sure that you measure the door frames opening. To do this just take a measuring tape and measure the width and the height of the inside edges of the door frame. Moreover, use the measuring tape to measure the saddle boards.

Step 2: Buy the Door

Using your measurements from step 1, find a door with the same measurements. Your measurements are the opening of your doorframe. If the door is not the exact measurements, don't worry about this. You will be able to trim it later on.

Step 3: Trim the Door

If the door is not the perfect fit for your door frame, trim it by first using a pencil to mark the correct measurements on the door. Use a circular saw to trim off the extra wood on the door. Try to leave at least a 2 mm of space on all sides of the door.

Step 4: Place the Hinges

Mark where you need to place the hinges on the door. Use an electric screwdriver to drill holes for the screws on the door. Measure and mark your door frame where the hinges will make a connection. Drill holes on the door frame using these measurements. Next, place the screws in the hinges and get ready to attach them to the door.

Step 5: Hang the Door

With the hinges in place, screw them to the door frame. Balance the door on both sides to ensure that it is properly fitted to the frame. Test the door by first swinging it. Secondly, latch the door and ensure that the latch is a perfect fit. You will not want any errors here.

Fitting a door frame is not a difficult task if you follow the five preceding steps. They are ordered so that you will be able to follow them according to your requirements. If you have any additional questions, contact a contractor who could help you with them.
